Old SAT study guide vs. new SAT study guide…?

Okay, I purchased an SAT study guide entitled “10 Real SATs”, which was written by the College Board company, online on Amazon for only $0.43 to prepare for the SAT. I thought it was just my lucky day for it to be so cheap, but when I got it today I realized that it MIGHT be for the old SAT, and my fear was confirmed when I saw that the publication year was 2003. I figured, though, that they must cover pretty similar material, so if I just do the questions in this book I could still be prepared.

So my question is, could I be able to study for the current SAT with this study guide? What kind of material should I also study that’s not in the book? If I prepare for the essay question along with this book, could I still be good to go to take the new SAT?

You can use it. Analogies are gone. There should be a verbal section that is actually a writing section. You won’t have an essay. Supposedly there is some higher level math on the new SAT, but I haven’t really noticed this.

So you just want to check out a new SAT book from the public library and read up on writing essays.

It’s not just the issue of the essay– the test itself is structured differently! There are no analogies, the math is slightly different, and there are actually multiple choice questions included in the “writing” score.

To get an idea of what’s in each section, look at College Board: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/prep_one/prep_one.html .

So you might want to find a book meant for the New SAT– try looking at your local library, they’ll often have review books.

It is for the old SAT. But, it’ll still help you prepare. You should still get a book for the newer SAT that has preparation tips for the essay portion of the test.

I bought the Barron’s SAT Prep book, compared to others even the official guide its the best it gives you a good review and a lot of vocab to study from . the format of the book is great, and i really recommend it

it probably would be fine…but you should still probably look at what changed.

also, you could try selling the old book to someone for a higher price, and have more money to buy the newer SAT study guide, if you are going to purchase it
