Is the ACT Online Prep useful?

If so, what does it contain. How will it help me improve my score.

Yes. It allows you to do two practice tests, your choice of timed or untimed.

If you choose the writing option, you can also do a writing test. It also gives tips on the writing portion and lists what will be on each test.

Some people find them useful, some don’t. I personally did not. I took an ACT review class at my school sophomore year, but it was completely useless. In fact, I think that I knew more than the teachers did… I took another review class for the PSAT junior year, and while the teacher knew more than I did this time, lol, all I did was take practice tests… if I missed a question, she’d give me a 2 second explanation. She didn’t teach me strategies or focus on specific types of questions that I was messing up on. I had scored a 201 on the PSAT FRESHMAN year (equivalent of a 2010), but when I took the PSAT JUNIOR year, I only scored a 212, and a 2110 on the SAT (Nov. 2009), both taken around the end of the class. I studied by myself for the SAT over winter break, a period of 2 weeks. I didn’t do an insane amount of studying… just studied vocab, focus on certain types of questions, and did some reading sections focusing on accuracy rather than time. I took the SAT again January 2010, and I scored a 2280. I had improved my score in 2 months by myself more than I had my PSAT score in 2 YEARS, even with a tutor. However, one of my friends did seem to benefit a lot from SAT and ACT prep classes… if I remember correctly, she improved about 200-300 points on the SAT and went from a 32 to a 34 on the ACT. So if you know your own strengths and weaknesses and think you can do well studying by yourself (which by the 3 point improvement by your own effort, it sounds like you can), then I would not recommend a tutor. A lot of times, people who are already at the 30+ ACT or 2000+ SAT level would not benefit too much from a tutor (29 is close enough =P)… there are exceptions, but most of the people I’ve heard of who have seen huge improvements were well below those levels. If, however, you think you’ve done all you can do AND a friend can recommend a good tutor who will analyze your mistakes and focus on specific areas for you (NOT just make you take practice test after practice test), then you might be able to benefit from an ACT prep class. However, it’s often difficult to find a good prep class, especially for someone at your level. Please e-mail me if you have any more/specific questions! =)
