Actually it depends on which country you live in too. Also, if your ultimate aim is to go into a university, it is better to get an A level certificate as A level certificate is more preferred in the UK. Although it is true to say that they will admit you with a IB dip, you will need very high scores to match the A level results and you will need to take more subjects than the A level students are taking- It is not worth it.

However the advantage of IB is that you can take the language paper on the language which you are strongest in- it will boost your marks a bit. That is something A levels do not allow. If you are a linguistic person, your second language will probably do well.

You have got to weigh your pros and cons. I will speak to you as a person who have been through A levels. I think it is tough, yes no doubt, a lot of hard work, but it will be recognised by almost all universities in the UK, America and even some parts of Australia.

I am not sure for IB though. It might gain you entrance in Canada, US and yes most UK university. But in UK they will soon be placing a tariff for IB points.
