If you take it and you find out that your score is lower than you want then schedule to take it again in the spring, but after you take extra steps to learning how to “play the game”.
You can take courses by Kaplan and other companies that help you get past the “tricks” of the test, or you can go to the library and buy the Princeton Review and do it yourself.
One big thing is to know what kind of sections you will have.
How much time do you have for each section, and how many questions can you possibly get in a section.
Break it down further to how much time you really have for each question.
If you have 25 questions in each section and only 35 minutes to answer, then you should aim for a minute per question.
The test makers also arrange the difficulty of the questions at a disadvantage to the test taker.
You DO NOT have to answer the questions in order. Most likely if you have let’s say 25 questions in the section, do the first 7 or 8, and the last 7 or 8. The questions in the middle will bog you down for a reason and you will end up wasting time on them and rushing to finish at the end.
If you don’t know a question then ALWAYS fill in your best guess. You can mark the question in your book and come back to it later if you have time.
One big tip I learned in taking 2 Kaplan’s courses, was to always pick one letter to fill in for all the questions you guess on and have no clue what the answer might be.
So, myself, I always picked D.
For the questions I could narrow it down, which is the best way, I would still take your best guess between two answers if you can narrow it down.
When you are in the reading section do not read for content. You are reading for information like dates, times, places, people, and maybe big words you never saw before. You should circle these.
Also, learning the latin prefixes such as: un, sub, dis, will help you tremedously.
Good Luck! Oh, and don’t study the night before GET SLEEP.
1. Take a watch with you that way you can pace yourself and you’ll know when the instructor will say stop
2. You can always skip around in the section that your in.. If you see a question that you have trouble answering immediately circle it and come back to it and move on. Every question is worth the same amount of points. So its better answering a question that you know the answer to rather than spending all your time figuring out a question that you don’t.
3. If your running out of time when it comes the the passage part, look for the questions that are easyly can be distingushed by looking at a certain line that gives you the answers.
4. If you can eliminate at least 1 answer that you know can not be it you have to guess. trust me the odds that you’ll get the answer right is with you if you can eliminate what cant be and then guess.
Good luck ( n_n)b
I have taken the SAT twice, theres no way to study for it, and dont stay up the night before trying to review as much as you can…Make sure you get a good nights sleep, and eat healthy the night before, you should wake up feeling refreshed, and drink some sort of fruit juice before taking the test. (If they allow it, chew gum)
