how do i raise my SAT scores? i took 3 practice ones so far…?

my score for critical reading started out as 520, dropping 30 points each time so now its a 460. math started out with a 490, went to 580, and now is 550. my first writing score was 480, 560, and i’m not sure about the last. these practice tests were from princeton review && the summer program cost my parents $995 bucks for only 2 days a week, 3 hours a day except on test days, where its 4 & 1/2 hours. we have 4 test days total. i feel like this program was a rip off. what should i do to bring up my scores? i’m entering sophmore year, but its never too early to prepare.

p.s. my first score was 1420, 2nd was 1610, unsure of third yet…

my GPA is a 4.0. i took all honors class & alg 2 trig last year so this year, i’m taking precal & honors for everything else. AP euro. however, i saw in the blue SAT book from college boards that GPA and the SATs are weighed equally when they accept students 🙁 i hope go get into a UC

Hi!

You’re right: GPA and SATs are weighted somewhat equally when accepting students. But I believe SAT is a bit more valuable, since it’s more about college level of work.

Your GPA is good, don’t worry about it. You’re not aiming for an Ivey school, do yours is perfect for UC.

The only thing you have to do to ensure your acceptance is try to raise your sat. I think noone should attend those stupid sat prep programs. Drop it as soon as possible. You should prepare yourself. Make your own, personal schedulem that is appropriate and perfect for you. Work on regular basis: read, write some essays, review math, and again read. Reading is crucial. I think I read like 20 books for my sat…

I would suggest purchasing SAT official study guide, Kaplan SAT prep and also Barrons. They all are a bit different, so they will help you a lot. Again, work by yourself. Study the review materials from the books and all the tactics – that’s very important.

Don’t worry, you’re in good shape. Just try to make the sat 1800 and you’ll be fine.

Also, you’re just entering sophomre year, you score higher than many seniors.

Good Luck!

read book everyday , do dictionary like to underline the word you don’t understand , read while also underline the words you don;t understand ., plenty of math as a practice test , recommended to buy sat official study guide .it is useful. your math is kinda average i recommended to do math more verbal cause math for most people is lot easily get 800 than 800 verbal.don’t worry if your math and verbal drop it just caused sat test lot easier than other . like princeton review is lot easier to do the same sat test from barron .and keep up the good work with gpa and ap and honor class

youll probably make itto most UCs.

you should relax though cus youre only a sophomore. your score should dramatically change after you improve your vocabulary, grammar, learn more math, and overall analyze better(from AP european).

those summer programs do help but you have to be dedicated to studying..

for now just memorize vocab for entire sophomore year, like 20 words a weekand use them in life so you will remember them. then in junior summer, study prep books like the blue book and princeton and barrons.

goodluck
