I have read the original edition under this title as well as later republished one under title Escape from Warsaw. It contains the pathetic but brave tell of the Polish family uprooted during WWII in search of each other.

Jospeh Baliciki was sent to a prison camp because when he was teaching at school, he turned a picture of Hitler so it faced the wall.

He then escaped to Warsaw to find out that his family has gone. He suspects that they have gone to family in Switzerland. So he goes to Switzerland to find them and with a little help of some people along the way

“When Joseph Balicki escaped from his Nazi prison, it took him four and a half weeks to walk back to Warsaw. He was looking for his wife Margrit and his three children — Ruth, Edek and Bronia. But when he reached the city, there was hardly a street he recognized. Warsaw was one gigantic bomb-site. As he sifted through the pile of rubble that had been his home he thought he would never see his family again. His wife Margrit had been taken away by the Nazis, and no one had seen his children since the night the house was destroyed.

But the children had survived, and this is the story of their search for their parents — a search which was to take them half way across Europe.”

The three Balicki children are left to fend for themselves in occupied Poland. Bravely they survive the hardships of war, and never completely lose hope of finding their parents again. This is the exciting story of their quest, of the clever orphan boy Jan who helps them, and of the silver talisman that accompanies them on their dangerous journey.”

?
Yeah I had to read it in English class.

Its about a family torn apart by war in world war 2.

I’d give it3.5 out of 5.

It was a good read, but the sword was sort of pointless.

Hope this helps!

I don’t think so, as it’s still on ther shelf at Barnes and Noble…last time I looked! The author must really be disappointed.

It was actually my favorite book when I was a kid. I read it in third grade.
