Does the US have SATs?

In UK we have SATs for Year 2, 6 and 9, but I’ve heard other things about SATs that are from US. Are they the same thing or am I just being stupid?

The US SATs are taken in grades 11 and/or 12. It’s a collage entrance exam. How well you do on the SAT determines the type of collage you’ll be able to get into. It’s one of, if not the most important test and American student will ever take.

SAT is an acronym for standard achievment test, but in the United States it most often refers to a college entrance examination. It is produced by Educational Testing Services (ETS) and is administered by the College Board. There are three parts to the test: critical reading, math, and writing. The highest possible score for each section is 800 and they are added together. The score is used by colleges and universities to determine admission and can even impact the level of financial aid that the student will receive. There is a PSAT for younger students to practice and you may take the test multiple times to improve your score.

In the U.S., SAT stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test. Students take them once – sometimes twice towards the end of high school. A student’s SAT scores are entered on their college applications. Many U.S. colleges and universities are now requiring a different test – the ACT.

Yes there are SATs in the US, which you take in 12th grade, to determine which college you get into. When I first took the SAT, my score was low in the mid 1700s but then I got the sat guide from TutorFox: http://www.tutorfox.com/satguide.html and my score went up to 2190 (800 math, 760 writing, 630 reading). I highly recommend this guide for anyone wishing to get a higher SAT score.

Yes, the US also has the SAT tests. However, it may vary with the UK’s. Your best bet would be College Board. It is the official site of the SATs (in the US).

I don’t know about the UK, but here in the US we have SATs that are used as college entrance tests and college placement tests. They are required to get into most colleges and universities.

we have the SATs here, it’s just that it’s a test you take to see what kind of college you can get into. Colleges take in students with higher scores, usually the better universities.
