are teachers allowed to test on channel one?

so we have to watch channel one everyday at my high school and everyday we have to take a page of notes because if not we will fail our test. the class is a jouralism class and there are usually 50 questions on each test. 20 or more of which are channel one. is this even legal? channel one is not in the curriculum and yet we are getting a huge grade from it.

last test it had 52 questions 27 of which were channel one.. i missed 3 questions on our actuall journalism test which would leave me a 88 but i missed 10 on channel one (didnt knwo it was going to be 27 freakin questions!) so in the end i got a 75… pretty BS if you ask me.

thanks for any help

If it is somehow tied in with your class like journalism than yes they can. I think the point is to make you pay attention

Yes. How would it not be legal? If it’s tied into your curriculum your teacher can test you on anything. Watching a news channel seems like an appropriate activity to teach a journalism class. Why would a teacher waste valuble class time on something that can’t be tested on?
