What made you choose your major/minor?

If you already graduated from college, what did you major/minor in and why? If you’re in college right now, why are you majoring/minoring in what you are??

I majored in anthropology in college. I didn’t enter knowing what I wanted to study and I found that anthropology classes offered really fascinating readings, theoretical modes of thinking, and ways of critically engaging with the world. I guess it just felt really relevant to me at the time. I have never regretted majoring in it (even though I know some people would probably consider it a silly/useless major). I had no trouble finding interesting job options afterwards and eventually had no trouble applying to law and later graduate school.

I think the best way to pick a major is to find something you’re genuinely fascinated by and want to learn about for 4 years.

good luck!

I majored in interpersonal/organizational communication. I actually had a few majors before that, and they all seemed to narrow me down to the field I chose. It was a good fit for me, the classes were interesting and generally pretty fun, and it works well in most fields as every business could use someone who knows how to communicate.
