It takes you to places you’ll not be able to go to. It brings you a variety of ideas. It increases your vocabulary and helps you learn proper grammar. I find it relaxing as well. There are so many types of books like fiction (mystery, literature, science fiction, fantasy, romance, Westerns, etc.), biographies (including autobiographies), politics, self-help, inspirational, etc.

Reading benefits just about every aspect of your life. In the grocery store you’re looking for the pasta isle and they moved everything around – if you can’t read the signs and can’t read the labels, you’ll have a much harder time finding your items. Medication labels, directions, signs, the list could go on and on.

Ask a person who can’t read how reading would make a difference in their lives. Ask a person who can’t read to their children, can’t read the directions to give their children medication, Can’t help them do their homework, can’t read notes home from school. Ask someone who can’t get a promotion at work, because they can’t read. Ask someone who cant’ read a prescription from the doctor so that they know what medicine that they are taking and how to take it.
Do you see what it would be like if you couldn’t read?? Did you know that you’re considered functionally illiterate if you read at a 6th grade or lower reading level? And that there are young people graduating high school in the US who can’t read at that level and who have to take remedial classes in college before they can go on to college courses?

Reading benefits the reader by strengthening one’s ability to reason, increasing one’s vocabulary, and helping one to see from another’s perspective. Reading benefits mankind 🙂

Reading helps you understand grammar and syntax. This would help you understand that the benefits of reading pertain to WHO, not WHAT.
