I have a reading disability, where can i get a textbook on tape?

I have a reading disability, mild dyslexia, it makes reading long text-only books hard, normal textbooks (such as biology, or math textbooks ) are not as bad for me. but i am now taking Economics 101 and the course book is not a standard textbook, its more of a novel.

the book is “Naked Economics” by Charles Wheelan, and I’m having a real hard time getting past the first few pages. Normally when i have to read a long novel book for a class i can find it as a book on tape, but i have been searching for a long time for this one on tape and i cannot find it. do you know a place that might have this as a audio book, or perhaps another solution? i really cant afford to drop a class because of the difficulty of the book! Please help me.

Taking Econ 101, sounds like you are attending a college. If that is the case, there should be services for disabled students. This department should make it easier for you to get tapes from Recording for the Blind. Also, many campuses have the Kurzweil education systems where you can scan in the textbook and the machine will read it. This can be saved on a tape or CD. As long as you have a bona fide diagnosis for your state, accommodations should be forthcoming at the college.

I wish you the best!

There are two things that you can do or rather three. You can contact the library of Congress and see if they have it on tape and you would be surprised at what they have on tape. You can contact the publisher and see if they would be able to tell you where to get it. If that doesn’t work and you’re in college ask at the office that helps the disabled to see if they can get someone to read it either to you or into a tape for you to use. They should be able to help you as long as they have proof that you have this disability.

Their is another thing that you can do. Contact the publisher for the book. They might know if it is available of tape. Putting it on tape probably requires the permission of the publishing company.

If you have a Braille institute in your city, or some kind of visually impaired agency they frequently have books on tape. Your university might have a visually impaired department and might have access to an audio version of your book.
