Would I use quotations when I think?

In writing:

(i know it’s supposed to be italized, but what about quotes?)

“Was I about to get robbed?” I thought.

does this work?

Smart kid for asking this Q!

Now sharon has given you a good reply but you must talk to your English teacher.

This is a matter of opinion/style! Some authors like to use italics, some double quotes, or even apostrophes.

‘Boy, he sure smells like old socks,’ she thought disgustedly as she smiled across the checkered tablecloth at her blind date.

I personally prefer italics as they are least often confused with actual spoken quotes.
