It means that you shouldn’t ask that life be easier; you should instead ask that you be strong enough to bear the burdens and challenges it throws at you.

Don’t ask for a light load, but rather ask for a strong back…By having a “strong back” you better yourself, work harder, and earn what you get. Without challenges in life we’d never learn anything from mistakes and experiences. And to overcome challenges is a great honor, gains you dignity and experience. The quote is really a lot of figuritve language that you have to look deeply into, which I don’t have time to do right now. So there. I’ll ask for a stong back another day….

if you only look to do the easiest of things, you will never be prepared to handle the most difficult of challenges when you get them—–and we all do——-what you want is not to avoid the challenges that come your way which may be somewhat difficult, but accept them and strengthen your ability to tackle them, and as result, make you able to carry the load of those difficulties that are the most challenging when they come along in your life.
