Is this sentence grammar correct? A series of unfortunate events make Charlotte lose everything.?

I just don’t know if the noun of the sentence – Series – is singular or plural. Should it be “makes” or “make?”

please help me.

MAKES, because “series” is a singular noun (even though it ends in S).

here is a small correction for u r sentence.

‘makes ‘ instead of ‘make’

In u r sentence the subject is in ‘singular number’ —

‘A series…..’

The rule is… ‘s’ or ‘es’ is added to the verb in ‘The Simple Present Tense’, if the subject is ‘third personal singular number.

Fancy That
Series is the subject (singluar) ‘of unfornate events’ is an adjective phrase in that it describe the series (the word of gives this away). Drop the of unfortunate events clause and say.

The series make or the seris makes

Which sounds right?

Series makes. The verb modifies “series,” not “events.”

think of it this way:

if series was plural, then why would your sentence say “A series”? you wouldn’t say “a trees” or “a apples,” would you?

in the presence of ‘A’ series, it becomes singular.

I’m pretty sure it is correct. “make” sounds right to me…”makes” doesn’t.
