That is why progress is precarious.. it is because we will never reach a state of being where there are no problems left to solve. In many ways, it puts our accomplishments into perspective. Because there is so much to get done, what appears to be a magnificent accomplishment, is really small in comparison to what needs to be done.
This is the precariousness in progress,
Then there are people who may want to bring you down, being envious of your progress or jealousy etc. And every (negative) situation you can think about (which can bring you down) as you progress.
So there is the precariousness you now recognize.
And as you recognize the precariousness of your situation, remember that it is caused by some risk (or problem) so you are now faced with another, and another …. every moment and day.
In brief, once you have overcome a problem and made progress, you have thenext problem which is to keep the ‘win’ and ‘to move ahead’
Basically the quote is just saying the progress is risky because it depends on a variety of circumstances and when a solution to one problem is found, another problem ALWAYS surfaces.
Kind of puts me in the mind of the saying “It’s always something”.
What his quote means is any progress made to achieving a solution brings with it its own problems, and so there is never going to be any true solution but rather a constant balancing act, of us trying to offset the new problems that arise with another solution.
To understand the quote, you also need to understand the context in which it was given.
Everything comes with its price. All progression made towards achieving that thing brings about that price in its wake. Anything done to try to offset the negative effects of that price in turn brings with it their own price. And so on.
therefore from what i understand, basically, lemme give a simple situation, eg:
your a mother with two children stuck in a burning building, f you go left you can save your boy, but if you go right you save your girl…. but after that there is no guarantee that you can save the other… as i really low chances, and if you go for the other after, you are very likely to die too…. so which kid do you save first? and would you go back in to save the other one even though the fire is critical?
thats just an example tho.
good luck
ex:
cell phone = it is a new technology that brings us convenience of having a handy phone.
Problem =
>they say to much exposure can cause brain cancer.
>the bills we get on charges drains the budget
>now nokia recalls batches of sub standard batteries
>etc etc
hope I was of help to you
