basically this can be rewritten:

x = (-1) x √9

The square root of 9 is not just 3. It is both (+3) and (-3) because (3 x 3 = 9) and (-3 x -3 = 9)

x = (-1) x 3 or x= (-1) x (-3)

therefore you answer is:

x= (-3) or x = (3)

Order of Operations:

find square root of nine: 3 or -3

multiply by -1: -3 or 3

answer is +/-3
