Does Anyone Remember A Saying or Short Poem…..?

From childhood?

I am helping to create an outdoor learning space at a children’s school and I wanted to put a small poem or saying in the garden.

I remember peeping through a garden gate when I was a child and seeing this poem

The kiss of the sun for pardon

The song of the bird for mirth

One is nearer to God in a garden

Than anywhere else on earth.

It must have made an impression on me because I have remembered it for my entire life.

Does anyone have a better one?

I absolutey love what you have– I think it is so beautiful. I don’t know if this will be any better, but I thought you might like it anyway:

There is always music amongst the trees in the garden, but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it. Minnie Aumonier

Baby said when she smelled the rose

“What a pity to have only one nose.”

Baby said when she smelled the snuff,

“Ker-chew! Dearie me! One nose is enough!”

-or-

A little boy and a little girl

In a garden full of bliss

Said the little boy to the little girl

“Pray give me just one kiss.”

The girl drew back in great surprise

“You’re a stranger, sir” said she.

“But I will give you just one kiss

When the apples grow on the lilac tree.”

The boy was very sad at heart

She was the only one.

The girl was quite remorseful

At the terrible wrong she had done.

But bright and early on the very next morn

He was quite surprised to see

His little sweetheart standing in the garden

Tying apples onto the lilac tree.

‘Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil.’

This was under an ornament of 3 monkeys. The first had his hand over his ears, the next had his hands over his eyes and the third hand hands over his mouth.

Made quite an impression on me as a 5 year old when I saw it.
