“Divide and Conquer” – Source of saying?
I am writing a paper and am saying something to the effect of “As so and so once said in his famous….blah blah blah, ‘Divide and Conquer.'” I just don’t know who “so and so” is and the rest of the “blah blah blah.” Does anyone remember this information?

It’s from the Latin saying, “Divide et impera”. It’s a description of an ancient strategy, so it’s going to be pretty hard to find the exact source….would it be possible to say “As they say, divide and conquer…blahblahblah”?
Or, you could just cite someone famous that once said it…that could work too.

Good question – I’ve looked up Julius Caesar, Napoleon, Mao and Stalin in the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations and it’s none of them. Hope someone can help.
