Why take AP and Honors classes?

I decided to take all CP classes this year. Was this a bad decision if I want to go to college. 😀 Actually one honors class – computer science

All AP credits carry over. Once you earn the credits they are permanently attached to your name. It is up to individual colleges and programs as to whether they will accept the credit towards the degree you are working towards.

Take an AP course if the major you are working towards only requires one level of that course. For instance, everyone will have to take entry college english. So take that credit in high school if you can. On the other hand, if you’re an english major it may not be a wise idea since scheduling may dictate you take a higher level english during your first year and that may make your schedule more difficult.

No matter what anyone tells you, honors classes are not that important. Colleges are interested on your sales value. They want to know what you will bring to their college (why they want you there). A few extra H’s on the course names of your transcript are not going to accomplish that.

Fyi – I graduated in the single digits of my class, had the highest sat score, never missed an honor roll, and had no problem getting accepted into any college. But college wasn’t for me so I left. My AP credits aren’t doing me a lick of good. Figure out what’s important and go after it, AP credits or not.

if you take honors biology you will have an option of taking the AP biology test if you want – likewise with any other course. However from experience, I have taken Honors Biology and am now in AP Biology and the AP course is much more in-depth and rigorous. If you are willing to spend a lot of extra time and effort (but a book etc.) then it may be worthwhile. It ultimately depends on whether or not you took the AP test which is the deciding factor on whether or not you are eligible to receive such credit (you score badly on the test and you dont get credit even if you have an A in the class, likewise, you can get a 5 (the best score) on the AP test and havea C in the class and you will be eligible for credit). also, if you plan on majoring in the subject you are taking an AP class for, often times colleges will give you credit hours for scoring well but make you take their class in that subject anyways. good luck!

Tip 🙂
Colleges look for honors classes to see how prepared you are. Also AP give you college credit and a A=5 B=4 C=3 and so on, which means it helps you with your GPA. I like all my classes (I take all honors, 1 AP class, and 2 college classes) I think they really do help you with admission to college and the class work in those classes helps you on the ACT which = scholarships.

AP classes do carry over at my school. Even if they don’t you’ll be learning so much more and be more prepared for college. I would advise taking AP classes over honors, unless you can’t handle them then definitely take Honors they’re very easy compared to AP classes.

i was just talking to my friends about this today! least at my high school the ap classes dont usually carry over to college very well and they arnt worth the time or effort that you put into them. honors are a good idea only if you want to graduate with honors from your high school, otherwise unless your super smart and get bored in regular classes. i really see no point in taking them. youll be fine and you will get into college no worries!

AP classes DO translate to college credit, assuming you do well on the AP exam. It will save you money and better prep you for college. They are really worth it, a nice transition course.

colleges like to see that if you had the oppurtunity to take an Ap that you did, they are extremely difficult and require a lot of work and there is no time to slack off, but colleges see this as a huge advantage because you actually take your education seriously

why not take honors???

it’ll help you get to the top

of ur class rank…

you don’t have to deal with the slackers…

you actually learn something…

it’s the only way to go unless

you can’t handle the challenge.
