Why take AP and Honors classes?
Favorite Answer
Take an AP course if the major you are working towards only requires one level of that course. For instance, everyone will have to take entry college english. So take that credit in high school if you can. On the other hand, if you’re an english major it may not be a wise idea since scheduling may dictate you take a higher level english during your first year and that may make your schedule more difficult.
No matter what anyone tells you, honors classes are not that important. Colleges are interested on your sales value. They want to know what you will bring to their college (why they want you there). A few extra H’s on the course names of your transcript are not going to accomplish that.
Fyi – I graduated in the single digits of my class, had the highest sat score, never missed an honor roll, and had no problem getting accepted into any college. But college wasn’t for me so I left. My AP credits aren’t doing me a lick of good. Figure out what’s important and go after it, AP credits or not.
