Education – What should I do?

Well…I’m 18, was a senior last year, and hated my school. I’m a smart guy and enjoy learning, but this school was just horrible. I barely ever learned a thing because the teachers would never teach. They prefer to just sit down on their computers and eat instead of teaching. That may sound fun to some people (not having to do work), but I actually wanted to learn…. not sit in a chair for hours doing nothing. It felt like a waste of time to me and this just unmotivated to go to school sometimes which ended up with me not graduating. So to get to the point… I’m really confused right now and don’t know what to do. I was enrolled into 2 online courses for high school, but I honestly just don’t wanna do them anymore. My parents get on my case everyday about those classes too. I was thinking if it would be a good idea to take my SAT, and getting a decent score so I KNOW that I can get into college. Then get my GED. But my family keeps telling me that GED’s are for failures. =(

You are not a failure anytime you further yourself with knowledge. You need to seriously consider what your motivations are and decide if you would like to pursue that interest further. Learning in a specific field, is like unlocking the answers to questions you are curious about.

You definately need to start with completing your grade 12 education. Either by GED or attending high school again. Once you have obtained your diploma, you are free to choose the road best suited to what you want.

Right now it sounds to me as if all you are doing is making excuses. First it’s the teachers being lazy. Then you don’t want to do the online courses. (whos being lazy there?) Keep in mind without at LEAST a high school diploma you will get no where fast in life. And in 5-10 years you’ll really wish you had finished school. Someday you’re most likely going to have a family. What kind of work do you think you’re going to be doing? A GED is ok, but if you still have the option to get your diploma from the school that’s probably better. THen go for a degree. If you want to go a little easy on yourself start with an associates degree. Just make sure its at a college that the credits will be accepted if you decide to transfer to a 4 year college. Trust me, it’s better to do this all now while your home. ONce you have a family of your own and a full time job it gets much more difficult. Good luck and get going!

If you want to carry on learning leave school and start at a college and chose your own subjects or go of to uni.
