Do I have a right as a student in this situation?

After school in the school parking lot, my friends and I drove our cars around quickly in small circles for the fun of it. It lasted ten seconds, tops. After I stopped, a teacher came out of her classroom and asked to see my ID. I showed it to her and she grabbed it and said I would get it back tomorrow. Now, I’m a senior in high school. Can she legally do anything to me, considering that all I did was drive my car after school in the parking lot? I know my driving was reckless but does that give her the right to do anything to me? Thanks a bunch!

well you shouldn’t have drove around on the school property like that, but she also had no right to take your ID. I would demand that she give it back tomorrow. Is it your driver’s license? What if you got pulled over on the way home, what would you have told the officer, my teacher took it? She has no right to take your license from you.

Don’t you know you’re not supposed to get caught? You knew what the rules were.

Let me put it this way, if the police caught you, you would be handed a ticket and court would be the next thing you would see.

Go talk to the teacher. She may be waiting for you to make the first move. That would be to apologize for your reckless behavior in the parking lot.

If you want to play, you’ll have to bear the pain. Talk to the teacher and get it over with.

I’m not a lawyer, but this is the advice I can offer. Don’t sit and debate who has the right and who doesn’t. Set it straight.

There’s a section here on the Law you might consult…

You could get suspended for endangering other students, or something of the sort. It’s the equivalent of throwing a dull knife across the cafeteria…it could put someone’s eye out.

Your car could have injured a small child in the area you did not see.
