I don’t really care about what I wear to high school but that’s just me. High school is only 4 years of my life and I will never see those people ever again. They can wear designer clothes now, but 20 years later, thye will be wearing nothing but second hand clothes.

School age children are deeply concearned with acceptance by their peer group.

It is simply a natural part of our development.

Yes, the primary purpose is getting an education, but there is no defeating our biological development: kids need to fit in, and begin the process of defining themselves as individuals, part of which is done (ironically) with a group.

School becomes the arena of socialization for school children because it is the single greatest amount of time they will spend apart from their families on a daily basis.

There are many reasons why some students do not finish school. It could be the pressure of not fitting in, it could be unresolved issues with learning (undetected learning disabilities), it could be an expression of rebellion, or pressures within the family. It might be economic, it might be…a lot of things. Even if it looks simple on the face of the matter, it is not in reality a simple matter at all.

The reason kids are so concerned about what they wear is peer pressure. Kids want to be with the “in” group. They do not want to be considered geeks or nerds by what they wear. It has always been that way. When I graduated high school in 1985, people were just like that.

Some of the reasons lots of students are not finishing high school because they are from a family who do not make enough money, so they have to help out. Another one is they don’t feel smart enough. The third reason would be they would rather work than go to school.

the student are so concerned with what they are wearing because they want to 1. be popular with other people.(most of society derives self acceptance off the reactions of others) and to make a statement ( for example .. hey I’m different look at me, or i am making a trend “someday”.) more or less because they want to catch the eye of a certain someone( mostly girls do this. most popular reason why plaid skirts are “back”) ( the male imagination)

I’m in secondary school (uk) where we have unifom, and even that doesnt stop us from buying uniform items that are against the dress code. We’re supposed to have tailored trousers or knee length skirts. I always buy above knee length plaid skirts and flaired trousers. I dress that way because i wnt to, if i didnt i would feel lousy, ugly and really self concious which would affect my ability to make friends and enjoy my school life. So yeah… i also aggree with what that bart guy said.

Because being miserable can affect one’s studies. . .so students strive to be popular in order to boost their self-esteem; thus, ultimately bettering their overall wellness which will improve their academic life as well
