It’s really a matter of opinion. I went to a public school from pre-K to 8th grade, then switched to private school for my high school years.

Personally, I enjoy private school much more. The atmosphere, is pleasant (not to say it isn’t a a public school) and the classes are smaller, so you can receive one-on-one help in any subject you struggle in. The classes ARE harder, but it better prepares you for what is to come in college.

People may dislike private because of the uniform situation. “Uniforms take away individuality and creativity.” Not true. Uniforms at my school, while we have a strict code, we can add touches of persoanlity to it. We may not be able to dye our hair neon green, but we are allowed to express ourselves.

It really depends on what school you go to. No private or public school is the same, so it’s a matter of where you are and what the school’s standars are.

There is no exact answer. Public schools get all the money they need from the government, but private schools can only depend on what they get from tuition. In certain areas, public schools will have good standards. At other places, you would definetly be better off in a private school. Private schools focus on dicipline and moral values a lot more than public school does, but at some places, public school may be a little ahead. Again, you cant exactly compare them because they are very different.

It depends on why you want to go there. People that are really religious usually send their kids to private school and even schools that are separated by gender so they have less of a chance of being exposed to or taught things that they don’t agree with. But in public school parents are allowed to take their kids out of classes like when evolution is discussed in science class or when they have sex ed. Private schools have more money too so there is less of a chance of the classrooms being overcrowded.

Public schools are less strict, which is a good and bad thing. I guess if you are being bullied or harassed the people doing it can get away with more stuff and not much is done about it.

I teach at a public school. My own children went to public schools. Both were successful in school and went on to college. One graduated from U of M and one is still attending. Of course I feel that you can get an excellent education in public school depending upon what you are willing to put into it. Students must be motivated and disciplined. That comes from home and from within. Parents who have high expectations for their children and from the school can make a huge difference. If you want a great education, you can get it from your school. Don’t let people put your school down. Be proud of your school and make your school proud of you! . We all need to stand behind public schools, support them and make sure they succeed.

It depends on if the private school is famous or not. If not, then they have lower funding for students. But if they’re famous, the standards tend to be better than the average state-public school.

I think public is better because you don’t have to pay out the butt for it and you’re more in the real world earlyer, being mixed in with all sorts of people rather than just with other kids who are in private school.

i find that private schools are better for those in grades 8 and below. once the person is in 9th grade, a public high school would most likely be better (especially if they’re enrolled in the gifted program–smaller class sizes and faster paced curriculum). it saves some money and gives a little more freedom so that they’re ready for college.

It depends on the school I’ve seen some crappy and good of both. But I agree that in the early years private is better. There is some up there from the Private system that had a crappy school, because he spelled skool, or something like that, so that one failed.

Absolutely depends on the schools in question. There are great schools of both types in my area. You need to compare them side by side to see “which is better”. I know http://www.greatschools.net/ allows you to do so, although there are sure to be other sites as well.
