Visuals are one of the most important parts of your presentation. Sadly, most people arent really listening to what you are saying…so if you do not have any visuals, or if they are poor quality, you will lose your audience within the first 10 seconds. Your visuals should illustrate major points of your presentation. You should have enough of them that someone who is not listening to your words will still understand your thesis. Your visuals should be varied–pictures, graphics, and words…the variation helps keep people interested.

Many people are visual learners and can understand a thing much better if it is represented by graphics or pictures.

I’m assuming that you mean what good are they. They help you illustrate points that would otherwise be hard to understand. Also, they help you distract if you lose your place. 😉 Also, they look professional, so your overall presentation, no matter how truly bad, at least LOOKS professional.
