I am sooooo glad I’m going into high school because I went with uniforms 1st-8th. I only had freedom in Kindergarden. I hate it because I think everyone deserves a chance to express themselves in school. Of course some rules need to be there but not to where you are taking away who a person is! The school wonders why we wont follow dress code so we can be more “professional” and they don’t realize that kids might not be so mean if they just let them be themselves and be comfortable and not feel like they are everyone else and be an individual person without wearing the same thing like they are in the army. How can you listen to them in school when they give you the advice “be youself?” Clothes can be a statement of who you are and they should not take away who you are or the way you want to present yourself. That’s just my opinion though…

When I was in school, I always had to go to a public school, at a time when only kids in ‘parochial schools’ got to wear uniforms. In junior high and high school the ‘closest’ we got was our ‘gym clothes’ that had to be ‘blue short shorts’ and white ‘button shirts’ (this was before ‘tee shirts’ became worn as ‘outer clothing) … but I really WANTED to wear a uniform to school to ‘blend in’ … I felt ‘different’ because I was MUCH TALLER than everyone else until I got to high school. I still think that ‘school uniforms’ are BETTER because they take away the ‘distraction’ of ‘fashion’ and the ‘mind’ can ‘concentrate more’ on LEARNING. Even some public schools now have ‘uniforms’ … and the ‘grade averages’ go UP when the uniforms are worn. So I’m ‘all for ‘uniforms’ and think ‘fashion’ can be worn when NOT IN SCHOOL.

I say that the uniforms in school are just more ways to brainwash kids and turn them into completely identical sheep expected to be the “model citizen” that wears the same thing and is sent to the reproduction factory to fund the cloning factories that pump out the same babies with bar codes so they can be identified if they rebel against the machine, so the chips will shock them and extinguish the revolution.

Jk. Anyways, I HATE those damned school uniforms. They’re all the same: the white shirt, kahki pants, and if you’re schools really crappy, the blue TIE. WHEN THE HELL DO YOU EXPECT A 8 YR. OLD TO WEAR AN EFFING TIE?! Wedding are hard to come by nowadays. They just strip you of your individuality. Why should I care if I save money? I’m not Arkham J. Solaris (it’s a pen name) anymore!! I’m Neural Student #4532, or Neural Experiment #237!!

I say that the whole racket’s a hat full of crap. Uniforms are just another way THE SYSTEM turns you into the emotionless, uniformed and thoughtless robot who the government wants everyone to be. If they’re all alike then NO ONE will question the government’s methods. If we’re all alike, the government can get away with anything. Because the public won’t know? And if no one’s different, who will want to find out?!

Why should it matter if you were different? People equal idiots, humanity equals insanity, society equals hypocrisy. People don’t know that being different shows a sign of INDIVIDUALITY, which you NEED today now that they’re slowly transforming our generation into a legion of robot sheep. Humanity wishes to confine to the machine, but why should you confine to a hypocritic society?

I’m sorry I seem so angry and misspoken, but hear me out? It’s being an individual so you’re not the same mold of plastic sewage called a human being.

My school just put in uniforms this year in the school history, so there is opinions floating around everywhere.

But I see it as a good thing. This way we have more clothes to go out, and we wont look the same as if we were going to school. Also, there are a lot of ways to make uniform look cute.

From a parent’s perspective, I think they are great. There is no fuss each day about what to wear to school. Shopping is a breeze. AND, there is no issue at school about one kid being better than other because of the name brand of their clothes.

However, from a kid’s perspective, it doesn’t leave them much room for individuality. I can see where it would be frustrating for certain age groups.

At my daughter’s school, they require the uniforms until middle school and then they can wear what they want. I guess it’s a compromise to get them started without prejudice and then let them be themselves as they go through puberty.

They are a very good idea! I know the students don’t like them, but without them, there is too much dress competition and it distracts from the real purpose of school. I live in Jamaica, and all schools, all students must wear uniforms. They like it, because it saves their good clothes for out of school, and they don’t waste any time trying to decide what to wear.

I used to wear one when I went to a Catholic school from K-4. It’s not bad, one thing is I didn’t have to choose what the heck to wear everyday! Haha. Now, my school’s district has a dresscode. Khakis and polos only. It was weird after a while to see everyone wearing the same things everyday, but it felt like everyone was wearing normal clothes towards the middle of the year.

Now that I’m older and have seen schools with them and without, I like them.

They remove a lot of social problems. Kids might think they’re boring, but so what? School is to learn. It’s not a fashion runway. A lot of things are too lax in US education, which is part of the reason why we’re ranked so low.

I love them, speaking as both a parent and an educator.

As a mom, I love the idea of not arguing with my son about his clothes each morning. I also think the the cost savings would probably be considerable.

As a teacher, I love the idea of equalizing my students in each others eyes. I wold hope that it would cut down on the snap judgments made by teens and pre-teens especially based on economic status.
