Unfortunately, “children” have become sexually active.

As young as 9-up.

The realty is there and sooner or later will have to be addressed. Sooner is better, IMHO. And I’m an old guy now.

I would not have said that when I was a teen or later. The problem either didn’t exist or was unknown to my generation.

The latter may have been the case.

Children at a young age, today, are exposed to sex in dozens and dozens of ways. We all know what those are.

From the time a child can walk/talk, they develop massive amounts of curiosity and absorb their outside surroundings and influences like a sponge.

Parents, even today, fail to either realize this, or fail to address it.

Someone must.

It should begin when girls/boys reach puberty, about 9.

Boys, and girls are already masturbating at 9 + -.

I was 9 once, as best I remember..

I don’t think that actual sex education should be given in elementary school. Now, in our district the nurses do talk to the boys and girls separately about body changes (not actual sex education) this occurs around 4th or 5th grade. The other point I want to make is that parents should have the right to opt out. In our district, the parent has to sign permission to attend the classes.

I am totally against the abstinence only sex ed that is taught in some schools, studies have shown that it is not effective. I think that contraceptives should be taugh in health class in a scientific manner. Schools don’t have to teach about the morals behind sex, but they should teach the facts.

While it should be the parents’ responsibility to teach their children about sex, many are not. Therefore a different institution must step in.
