What are the rules for the school bus on picking up children.?

Hi I have a 5 year old who will be starting kindergarten in a week and the school has yet to determine whether or not it will come to our house or meet us down the street. We live on a cul-d-sac and there are no other kids on our street that will be riding the bus. The problem is the road we live off of is a dangerous road with hills and blind entrances. Does Illinois have a law that requires the bus to stop at a safer spot. I guess I always thought for the little guys the bus would come and stop in front of their house. The school he will be going to is not large at all, maybe 30 kids per grade which goes up to grade 3, so the amount of kids is not the issue and the bus has room to turn around on our road without backing up.

Thanks in advance for the advice or help, a caring mom for Illinois.

try looking on your school website if you havent already. my district picks up elementary kids at their house if they request it, but for middle school / high school you have to walk about a block before you get to your stop. the rule for my school is if the kid lives 1.5 miles or more away from the school they get to take a bus.

my parents called the school district’s bus station and requested that a stop in front of our house be added to the normal route. you can try that if it is the same in illinois.

I would suggest visiting the school and talking first to the secretary, and then to the principal. Be nice and win their support and help.
