Teens! Do you print, or write in longhand for school and homework?

I’ve learned that not all schools expect longhand (cursive). And

many students don’t know how to write. They only know printing. I wonder if this is just a regional thing.

So please list the city and state you are in, and if you print or

write.

Thanks!

Connecticut and I print though certain letters will connect as if it were cursive. I have not had to use cursive since I learned it in elementary school and I am now a junior in high school. Don’t get me wrong if I had to I could write in cursive and I can sign my name in cursive and what not. Most teachers will request that if you hand write something it be in print because everyones cursive may differ and be difficult to read. Even so just about everything now is to be typed so cursive really has not been important for me in my education.

Umm I live in New Jersey.

And I type things out or handwrite them in print.

The elementary schools in the district I go to teach cursive in fourth grade, but after that teachers don’t really enforce using it. Some people I know write in cursive, and others have reverted back to print, with the knowledge of how to write in cursive.

I’m a high school sophomore, and I almost always print.

However, this is because an unfortuanate incident where I moved at the critical time between 2nd and 3rd grade. In NY, where I finished 2nd grade, one did not learn cursive until 3rd grade. But lo and behold, down in Florida (where I moved to) the kids learn script in 2nd grade – and I had missed it. Learning script without the assistance of my teacher was a time consuming and negative task, and I never did master it. For instance, I to this day cannot write a captial G, S, or Q in cursive.

So to save myself the embarassment of writing like a 3rd grader, I just instinctively lean towards a messy mix of print and script lettering. 🙂

I’m 17 and live in Canada. I don’t handwrite. I print when I write. Though sometimes it looks kind of like a mix between both, but it’s mainly printing.

I learned it in Grade 2. Used it for a little bit during my elementary years. It was stressed that ‘In high school, you’ll have to handwrite everything! You won’t be allowed to print!’ They were wrong. I’ve never handwritten anything since about Grade 6.

My handwriting looks like a Grade 2 kid did it. It’s messy and I don’t use it. I guess it would get better if I used it more, but I find it slower and more time consuming than printing. I don’t think it’s as nice looking, either.

Handwriting seems pointless, to me.

St Pete FL, Grade 11. I print because cursive takes too long especially if you make mistakes. I have to write in pen and strikeouts bother me. Most people write in print though.

16 charleston sc high school junior.

we learned to write in cursive in about third grade but no one has EVER told me to write in cursive and most my teachers prefer you write in print because some people just cant write neatly i guess.

but we did learn it, and i know of no one who writes in cursive.

sometimes i get a little lazy and write half and half like when im tryin to write something fast my letters sometimes look cursive but thats it.

mostly everything is typed now anyways.
