Yes and no.

First, what level are you looking at? Younger children need practical training in morality so they can learn to live with others.

At higher levels you are more likely to need buisiness or professional ethics which are sub-branches of the field.

I actually wish EVERYONE studied the topic and not just from an academic perspective because without an ethical framework a society erodes and – eventually – collapses.

The problem with codes of professional ethics (you can go on-line and type in this phrase and get lots of hits) is that they tell you WHAT to do but not WHY to do it. They inform you of what’s acceptable by really leaving aside the question of right and wrong.

But- sionce most of society is now operating that way the teaching of such ethics in schools at least provides a minimum basis for common trust and societal exchange.
