Okay, so you know that the ratio of boys to girls is 4.5 to 5, so you make that a fraction- which is- 4.5/5

Since you also know that the number of boys in the school is 153, you put 153/x because you want to know how many girls there are.

You set them equal to each other in proportion and solve.

4.5/5= 153/x

Cross multiply.

153*5=743, so you do 763=4.5x

To isolate the x, you divide 763 by 4.5

You should get x=170, so B is your answer.

I hope you understood my steps!

B. For every 4.5 boys theres 5 girls so how many 4.5 boys are there (divide 153 by 4.5) = 34. so theres 34 groups in which each group has 4.5 boys and 5 girls, so 34X5=170 number of girls.

4.5/5=153/g, cross multiply so that you get 4.5 x g=5 x 153, thus 4.5 x g=765, solve for g by dividing by 4.5 to get 170
