and gives it to schools doing worse

In reality what is happening in my district is that the good teachers are leaving. They either go to the schools in the wealthier area where they are given more money to use in the classrooms, (not in their pockets), and have less mandates, or they leave teaching altogether. The poor teachers just follow whatever scripted program they are given and say, “Well as long as I follow this program they won’t fire me.” The other day I was complaining that the scripted program didn’t allow me to do the things that I needed to do to make sure that my students were learning, (ex.. Explain words that my second language students didn’t know, explain concepts and things that my poor children had never been exposed to…) and I was told, “Oh that’s just too much work. I just teach what they tell me to teach, give the worksheets they just tell me to give, and if the children aren’t learning, that’s their problem, not mine. I like the scripted program, I don’t have to think.”
I’m not sure what MCAS is, but i’m guessing it’s what we call the TAKS test. Schools that receive more money are actually the higher performing schools. But this money goes into the teachers or administrators pockets. Schools that are doing poorly run the risk of being taken over by the government. So i guess if the govt. takes over your school, they may pump some money into it, which is what they should have done in the first place.
