No, just the opposite. NCLB mandates that as schools “fail” more and more money is taken away from them, (they call these “sanctions”), as more and more things are required from them, (they call these “mandates”). The FAULTY ideology behind this is that the reason the schools are failing is because the teachers aren’t teaching and if we mandate more and more while giving them less and less the teachers will start teaching.

In reality what is happening in my district is that the good teachers are leaving. They either go to the schools in the wealthier area where they are given more money to use in the classrooms, (not in their pockets), and have less mandates, or they leave teaching altogether. The poor teachers just follow whatever scripted program they are given and say, “Well as long as I follow this program they won’t fire me.” The other day I was complaining that the scripted program didn’t allow me to do the things that I needed to do to make sure that my students were learning, (ex.. Explain words that my second language students didn’t know, explain concepts and things that my poor children had never been exposed to…) and I was told, “Oh that’s just too much work. I just teach what they tell me to teach, give the worksheets they just tell me to give, and if the children aren’t learning, that’s their problem, not mine. I like the scripted program, I don’t have to think.”

I’m not sure on this one. NCLB is faulty because there is no funding mechanism in place. In other words, NCLB ecpects schools to do many things and these schools are not given the money to do so. The national government does not want to raise taxes to pay for it so it falls to the state govt. In Texas, where i live, the state government is republican and they also do not want to pay for it, by raising taxes or some other way so now it falls to the local govt. This results in higher proerty taxes or appraisal rates, even on houses that have not been improved.

I’m not sure what MCAS is, but i’m guessing it’s what we call the TAKS test. Schools that receive more money are actually the higher performing schools. But this money goes into the teachers or administrators pockets. Schools that are doing poorly run the risk of being taken over by the government. So i guess if the govt. takes over your school, they may pump some money into it, which is what they should have done in the first place.

Considering that there are way more C and D scholars than A scholars, I consider it’s doing what it was once designed to do. The A scholars will nonetheless be A scholars however Perhaps the C and D will likely be B and C scholars. As public schooling it must now not simplest be for “The Best and Brightest” . What I see taking place essentially the most is that lecturers are unwilling to assimilate to the brand new process. While they have got to get ready scholars for the checks they’re by no means avoided from instructing past the checks additionally. What I see taking place is that lecturers are instructing simplest to the checks and now not even doing that good in protest to being held dependable for the task they have got. For too decades lecturers have became out scholars who have no idea the right way to be trained, they recognize not anything of study and even the right way to discover understanding. The scholars are readily neglected if they don’t exhibit curiosity. The precedence of schooling has been sacrificed to individual freedom.

The child who gets “left behind” in this program is the intelligent child who is forced to sit and wait and wait while the illegal non-English speaking kids in his class take 12 times as long to learn what he already knows. They should rename this program “Americans left behind”.

Schools are controlled by politics, and we all know that politicians are crooked, money grubbing, greedy bastards.

Cheers
