My daughter is 9 and was born on Jan. 5, 1998. What Grade should she be in?
She’s smart and talented and the school district seems to think she belongs in grade 3 but I believe she should be in grade 4 already. She exceeded all expectations last year, blew her STAR test away, and the only kid in her class who’s her age was held back for a year.

Age-wise, she should be in Grade 4. I’m a teacher and I also have a 9-year old niece that is going into Grade 4….her birthday is in the same year except she was born in April. I would contact someone like a school trustee (that’s what they’re called here). They usually have a few schools in the area that they’re in charge of. The school board superintendent is also someone to talk to if someone at a lower rank is unable to fix the situation. She sounds like a bright girl and there’s no reason why they should be holding her back.

Hi, My birthday is Jan. 28, 1992. I turned 9 in 3rd grade so she be entering 4th. Absolutely. Especially if she exceeds the expectations. I would talk to the school board.

A nine year old who turns ten in the middle of the year should be in fourth grade. You are correct.

i think she should be in 4th. was she too young to enter kindergarten and had to wait until a whole other year to start.
