Is it when you get detention at school, you can get some food meanwhile?

Hi,

I saw in the movie Freaky Friday(starring Lindsay Lohan), when her charactor got detention @ high school, she could get some food at the same time (first time it’s meatloaf, the second time it’s soft drink).

I dont understand, why student in US can get food during detension? Obviously the detension didnt last very long time, so I guess she didnt miss any meals.

In my school we didn’t get to eat during detention. The movie is Hollywood’s take on it. That and, detention is normally only an hour or two long, so unless the kid eats every 20 minutes, no one misses a meal lol
