Is it possible for I a 16 year old to improve in math mainly multiplication in a few days?

Yes,yes16 year old girl.I’m ashame enough. But,before you begin to ask yourself ‘Shouldn’t you know the basics of math already”? Well,I don’t and it’s a long story.I grew up in a horrible school.Luckily,I now go to a better advance one.

I just want encouragement,if I try hard enough for days and hours will I be able to improve.School begins on Aug 20,I get very stress my head hurt a lot.I yet, don’t know my multiplications,I have panic fears around others.

i’m not fishing for rude comments,I just need support.Since I barely have any from anyone.

Please do not suggest a tutor, nor friend. This is something I have to do on my own,I do it by studying and watching math tutor videos on youtube.

I just need support and encouragement to not give up,I want to improve.

….please, just a bit of support all I ask.

Yes – if you have the desire and a plan.

There are some great websites to help you. Flash cards are $2 at Walmart or make your own. Here is a site where you can print worksheets to practice timed tests:

http://themathworksheetsite.com/

100 facts in 5 minutes is good.

If you like playing true video games

http://www.bigbrainz.com/Download.html is a great program that lets you play a game & practice multiplication.

Good Luck!

Teaching facts for numbers 2 through 9

A. 2+2 = 4

B. How many times did you add 2?

C. 2 added 2 times equals 4 or 2×2 = 4

D. 2+2+2 = 6

E. How many times did you add 2?

F. 2 added 3 times equals 6.

G. This is always true. Do it enough times and you will remember these facts without having to count or add. We will now do that using flash cards.

Teaching facts for 1 and 0

A. Any number times 1 is that number.

2×1 = 2 Nx1 = N

B. Any number times 0 equals 0.

Why?

Because: 9+9+9 = 27 or 9×3 = 27

9+9 = 18 or 9×2 = 18

9+0 = 9 or 9×1 = 9

0+0 = 0 or 9×0 = 0

Understanding reversibility (distributive)

A. 2×3 = 6 This means 2+2+2 = 6

B. 3×2 = 6 This means 3+3 = 6

C. 2×3 = 3×2 Either way the answer is the same.

Memorization of facts:

2×2=4

2×3=6 3×3=9

2×4=8 3×4=12 4×4=16

2×5=10 3×5=15 4×5=20 5×5=25

2×6=12 3×6=18 4×6=24 5×6=30 6×6=36

2×7=14 3×7=21 4×7=28 5×7=35 6×7=42 7×7=49

2×8=16 3×8=24 4×8=32 5×8=40 6×8=48 7×8=56 8×8=64

2×9=18 3×9=27 4×9=36 5×9=45 6×9=54 7×9=638×9=72 9×9=81

Dont feel ashamed i am also 16 and dont know my basics but its not that uncommon anymore so dont feel bad i am more of a creative person then a math person but i do work on my math and i have learned that just doing drills every night works and its not that hard if you have the time im really bad on my 7’s and 8’s so i just go 8 16 24…ect and do it over and over and then not looking at the paper i do it in my head till there memorized its catches on really quickly and during the day like doing dishes go back on it in your head its easier then sitting down and running the drill and i think it works better cause u are reliying on your memory

hope that helps and im sorry my explination was so long

It is great to see you taking such an interest in your learning and seeking out help for yourself. You are not alone. I am a teacher and I used to tutor students older than you in their multiplication facts. I suggest that you use flash cards to help you learn. You can either buy them already made or you can make them yourself using index cards. Practice with the flash cards every day and you should get the hang of it after a while. It won’t be overnight, but the results will be long lasting! Good luck to you and message me if I can be of any further assistance.

First of all, if you are determined and willing to put in the effort, there is nothing you cannot achieve, and don’t ever let anyone ever tell you otherwise.

Continue to study. Make sure you know your mulitiplication tables through the 12’s. With that you can work your way through the more difficult stuff. There are also web sites that can help you. Just use google to search for them.

There are many people who present excuses and stop there. I congratulate you for taking the next steps. Good luck! I know you will succeed!

Yes you can do it. I’m not quite sure how, but if it’s the basics, I would suggest flash cards, cheap and easy. Just work hard and beleive in yourself. I actually suck at math, but am very good with the basics. If you need a break from craming for math, try baking or cooking, it will help with fractions.

I support you all the way. Good luck in learning and I hope you learn a lot and enjoy learning. And if you are determined and practice a lot, you will learn the whole table up to ten if you keep trying in a few days! It’s great that you take your education to heart. Good luck!

YES!!! I’m gald you asked this. I actually did it in ONE DAY. It is very possible. But my circumstance may have been much different. As the daughter of a typical Asian mom, she decided that I was too behind in learning my tables(for my family you leanr them in 1st grade and I was in 3rd grade at the time). I was to sit in my room all day and only come out when I had my tables memorized. If I came out before, my mom had a large wooden chopstick ready and she would beat me with it. It was quite a painful experience. One tip is to write it out like 3×4=12, rather than to verbally say it. When my mom had me recite it, I had so many mistakes that I ended up getting beaten. But when she asked me to write it I got them all right and was allowed to come out of my room. It’s possible(with the right ways of torment of course), don’t give up and good luck!!

As goofy as it sounds, go over some School House Rock songs for multiplication. My classes always love them and really understand the concepts.

Sometimes it’s hard to “get your head around” math concepts. I suggest you try math.com or another tutorial math site for help. Here’s one you can try: http://www.multiplication.com/teach.htm

or this one: http://mathforum.org/dr.math/faq/faq.learn.multiply.html

Look for mnemonics (memory tricks) to use to help you remember, and try to find ways to reduce your stress levels, because that does make it more difficult to focus and remember facts. Good Luck to you. You CAN do this.
