Wow almost 40 lbs!?! That’s shocking. How is it so heavy? What do you have in there? Textbooks are probably the cause of the heaviness; does you school have lockers? If so, you should definitely use your locker. The extra bags that you carry for sports and drama you can perhaps ask a teacher of yours if you can drop it off in his/her class in the mornings and pick them up after school or whenever you need them. That’s usually what I do, I do tennis and track. Goodluck! and make sure you solve this problem ASAP b/c you can get serious back problems

You might need to try a messenger bag type thing for your books. It might displace some of the weight off your back so much.

That’s crazy that you have a load that heavy to carry around.

Are you just carrying this much around to and from school or is it all day?

If it’s all day, then I’d suggest (if you have a locker, I assume you do), figure out when your easiest time to switch out books is and just unload what you don’t need and pack what you do at this time. Organize your bag for easy switchout at the end of the class that is before you go to your locker.

I might have the scenario all wrong…depends on your situation.

Good luck…hope your back gets better.

There are two people at my school who have those rolley backpacks. Even if they are against your school rules, you could get a note from a doctor saying that it is a necessity and the school would have to oblige.

However, people make fun of the two kids at my school with those backpacks… so it’s your choice.

That sucks. I remember needing to lug around all my books from class to class and all the way to school and back everyday. Make sure you use both straps and adjust them properly. Try a few different positions and see what works best for you. A good back pack will make a world of difference on your back and for comfort. I had my Jansport backpack for years and I loved it

The backpacks you all have to carry are horrible. When my son was in Middle School I got him one of those rolling bags — you can find them everywhere BUT they aren’t “cool” evidently (this I don’t understand – if it were me….I’d be uncool and roll the damn thing, ya know?) — older kids used to come up and kick it when he walked with it. I don’t know if they are still “uncool” or not — but I totally believe in comfort first at this point.

do you have alot of binders for your classes? if you have tons of big binders then make them smaller you really only need 1 inch binders per class, and then i folder for hw. leave and books your teacher has a class set of at hm. if you read then take only 1 book w/ u. and if your backpack, drama bag, or sports bag are too big then you’ll end up filling it with useless stuff, get a bag that will not fit more than you need. bfor you leave school get everything you’ll need for hw and nothing more. if you hv a pencil bag full of pencils and stuff then take it all out except for two pens, pencils, a perm. marker, and a red pen. keeep the colour stuff in ur locker and at hm. this is wat i do and it helps so i hope you find it usefull!

we bought our daughter a second used copy of her textbooks to leave at home so at least that bulk of the weight is off her shoulders. You can get used textbooks fairly cheaply from places like Alibris.com, Amazon.com and such. for example 8 textbooks cost us $90. Hope that helps.
