At my old school, the student council was very active and did a lot of things:
1. Came up with and organized new events, like a fundraising dance
2. Organized/put together school grounds cleanup committees
3. Discussed school events, ideas, and rules with the principal and administrators: example, they negotiated less punishment for people who were late to class
