Social anxiety and going to be a freshmen?

I think I have social anxiety. I was always a quiet person in school. But since 6th grade I hate going because people would always make fun of my weight and how I looked old for my age. I have all the symptoms of social anxiety.

Making a long story short, later today I have ninth grade orientation from 6pm to 8 pm. Its almost 6 am now and I cant sleep. My days and nights are mixed up also. I fear going to the orientation because of all the people that will be there and my parents will there too. My dad is old and my mom is young. My dad is old and my mom is fat. I think people will judge that lol.

I havent even got a letter from the school about the orientation either. I found this out from the school website. Should my parents call the office later today and find out whats up?

Also how can I not worry? I hate the thoughts of going but I need my schedule and need to know where all my classes are lol.

Are they kids any mature than junior high? Like a little more mature?

yeah my student orientations today too, I’m just going to ask my mom to call like two hours before i go and see if its ok and stuff. Don’t care about what other people think of you, you will NOT be the only overweight person going to your high school nor the only social caterpillar. Just try to break out of your shell because no one knows who you really are and you have the chance to be anyone so don’t walk into school with labels (that’s just giving other kids the license to judge you).

Sorry to tell you, but the middle schoolers are ALot more mature seemingly but Jr. high kids are much more crueler and high schoolers really don’t care too much.

Never EVER be ashamed of the people who birthed you in this world, because without them, you would be nowhere. just be glad that they care enough to come with you.

P.S. Good luck (freshmen to freshmen) and I hope you make tons of friends (remember to talk to the people who seemingly has none)

Well I just got over my freshman year and am starting 10th grade it about 2 weeks. It is really not that hard I think you’re more lucky that you’re a guy because guys are more immature and make fun of people especially girls. I think girls are more mature and guys maybe a little bit, but it really just depends on the person. Usually you’ll find the seniors the nicest because they’re the most mature. But seriously you shouldn’t have to worry so much. I know everyone is nervous on their first day but you just got to be strong and you’ll get thru it. You won’t be doing like anything the first day as in learning new stuff in your classes the teachers will just tell you what you will be learning this year and stuff like that so all you really need is a notebook and a pen/penicil for your first day. So then you can find out who’s in your classes and kind of make friends there. About the orientation thing if you’re not sure your parents can call the school to make sure its right but usually school websites are pretty accurate. Good luck I’m sure you’ll do fine =]

Hey Ryan,

My name is Jay, and it sounds like you are alot like I was, when I was younger.

First of let me say, yes you should have your parents call the school. Just to be sure there has not been a mix up with the paperwork.

Second, I’m gonna tell you what I learned back then, and it’s very simple to say, but hard as heck to do. IGNORE THEM. It doesn’t matter how old you are, there’s always going to be immature people around you. But why should you care? I know I use to care, but then I started to realise I had things they didn’t, for me it was math and computers, I was a natural with both. Find what you are good at, make friends with those that share those interests and abilities, and you will have nothing to worry about. Just ignore the trash talkers, becuase you want the honest truth? They are making fun of you becuase they are just as insecure about themselves. You, like I was, are insecure and withdraw, they are insecure and attempt to redirect the attention away from them by making fun of others.

As far as getting yourself on the right schedule, I can’t help you there. I’ve never been normal lol. I’m the type that I was up all night, went to school during the day and slept away the afternoon and evening. Maybe that’s the type you are, but only YOU CAN DECIDE THAT.

BE YOURSELF AND WHO CARES ABOUT THE REST.

Catch ya later

Jay

You are special just the way you are, don’t put so much value and thought into what everyone else thinks about you. YOU are awesome, and the reality is that these people won’t be with you your whole life. Stop worrying, and be yourself, don’t worry about what others say, and as long as you are doing what needs to be done so that you are the best that you can be too, who cares what other people think. The same goes for what people say about your parents, if they say anything at all! Most kids know that it is a given that our parents will “embarass” us at some point, that is the sweet revenge they get for all the hard times we gave them. Remember that they gave you life, they love you unconditionally, and that my good man, is far more priceless than a stupid reputation for “cool parents” that some kids you will have not a whole lot to do with think!

Relax, stop over-thinking everything, and enjoy your high school years. In four years you will be an “adult” and will have the REALITY of college or work, and it just isn’t as fun as kids portray it to be….I know I am one lol! You will be fine. If you continue to feel anxious, talk to your parents and see if they can make an appointment with an appropriate Dr., and talk to them about your feelings of anxiety. However, rest assured, EVERY FRESHMAN goes through this, and if you go to college, you will go through it again!

Best wishes and Good LUCK!!!

You need to stop caring about what people think of you, you’re you, you’re special in your own way and you should never change cause of other peoples opinons and rude comments. Don’t worry, you’ll be fine, oh, and good luck as a Freshman.
