Medical school is graduate school and is four years away once you are in college. A lot of people go to community college before they transfer to a 4 year college. They don’t think any less of you if you went to a community colllege.
Your grades are important to you once you are in a 4 year college. I’ll be honest with you and tell you that you have to be keen and even more of a no-nonsence girl (I read your profile before I answered your question) so that you can maintain a HIGHER THAN AVERAGE GPA while in that 4 year college.
During your second or third year consider writing the MCAT, the information link is below. http://www.aamc.org/students/mcat/
Also, get GREAT letters of recommendations from your teachers/professors. I can not stress the importants of the word “GREAT”, because what they write about you will affect whether you get an interveiw or not.
With your higher than average GPA, letter of recommendations, personal letter and resume. Apply to the schools either directly (Medical Schools in TEXAS) or by AMCAS (American Medical College Application Service) http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas/start.htm
In fact you can go to AMCAS right now and ask them for an application package. It will give you an idea of what documents you need as well as what minimum requires specific schools are looking for, this will help you to narrow down which schools you want so that you can call them and ask them for specifics details.
Good luck to you, it was a long time ago for me, but I can tell you that it was a nail biting, teeth pulling process. I don’t have a God complex from surviving it, but I damn well deserve one 😀
