I need some help please?

Ok for this question I guess it would help if you had an understanding of the whole Irish educational system you know like the leaving cert and the whole points thing but I would really appreciate any advice.

Basically I was wondering if theres anyway to get into veterinary without having to go through the leaving cert cos Im in transition year and I know that I cant stay in school anymore its always been like this I mean I dislike school way more than average I just sit there day after day feeling awkward and out of place and generally awful and I cant stick it anymore.

Im good at school I mean Ive always gotten good grades I get on with my teachers and peers but If i dont have my leaving cert people wont give me a chance to be a vet and its all Ive ever wanted to do.

Please help.

There might be other routes to becoming a vet, say by doing a science degree first, but I really think you need to do your leaving cert in order to get into any sort of college. At least, it’s probably the shortest way of doing it, especially if you expect to get good grades. There are Leaving Cert Applied courses and you can go on from there to get a FETAC award, which sometimes can open up degrees to you, but I don’t know if you can become a vet by doing this. Maybe you could ask your career guidance teacher for advice, or there are other career coaches not connected to schools that might be able to help. I found this site http://www.careerguidance.ie/html , maybe you could contact them.

Call the vet school you want to attend and they will tell you what is acceptable. Bottom line, if you want it bad enough, you can put up with the aggrevation, right?

We need good vets! Hang in there and keep your eyes on the prize. Good luck, Suz
