first of all you don’t have to be bi-lingual..I’m not and i just graduated from there and that because i am from Mexican descent..it helps but its not a must..second private schools are OK but the public schools are not that bad usually going to a newer school is better… being from harlingen i would recommend Rodriguez elem or Stuart place and Gutierrez middle school..the schools are just what you make of them concerning after school programs a lot of schools strive on football and we have some great athletic programs and even the bands are great

In the past Rio Grande Valley schools were getting the rep of being bad. However, many schools have made great strides to improve. If your going to send you kids to a valley school, you should develop a good reading program on the side and try getting them enrolled in honors. That should keep them in pace with the level you looking for.

not to be rude but i would put my child in pivate school.. rgv is flooded with border crossers and at 30 + children per class room over 1/2 being of hispanic decent your child better be bi-lingual to keep up.. call the school distric to find out what they have available
