how do you cope with high school when it gets hard for you?

i am a high school senior and i am trying to make the best grades possible, that is A’s and B’s (which is something i have never accomplished) and i have TONS of work/ studying to do on a regular basis.

advice from teachers is very well accepted

i am afraid that i will be so caught up in school work that i won’t have time to enjoy my high school senior year. how can i avoid making this year just a load of work and nothing else?

The most important thing that I noticed in high school (I’m a sophomore in college now) was in order to get good grades, you have to ask questions if you don’t understand something. Don’t be afraid to ask it in front of the class either because if you are struggling with something, it is most likely that someone else is too. If you don’t want to ask a question during class, make sure you approach your teacher immediately after or right before class. This will make you stand out in their eyes. Also, if you ask them for help on a regular basis, they will not only help you personally, but they may put you in touch with tutors if you are really having an issue.

And, as another note, your senior year in high school is supposed to be your most fun out of all four years. There will always be opportunities for you do have fun, but you need to realize that school is your main priority. An easy way to learn information quickly is to read over your notes after school. Go through them, highlight them, and if you have questions, ask about them the next day. Also, read the book because it covers information that the teacher may want you to know.

Also, you need to learn how to manage your time on the weekends. If you work, you have a harder time to fit studying, homework, and friends in, so you really need to prioritize what you should do. It’s perfectly okay to go out in the evenings, but you should set a goal for during the day. If you work, you should study or do homework before or after your shift, and if you finish that, you should reward yourself by going out.

Hope this helps!

Get organized and stay organized!! Buy a weekly planner and fill out every important date for the entire semester or year if you can, due dates, exam dates, anything… Don’t forget to pencil in appointments, birthdays and any other events simply because it will keep you from forgeting and becoming stressed about it later. MOST IMPORTANTLY, schedule free-time to do things for yourself!! Exercise, shopping, being with family and friends… I know it seems silly to schedule your entire day, but if you want to really make your year great you kinda have to, otherwise it’s total chaos! High School is already ridiculous enough… I was 3 yrs into college bf I was told by a couselor to use a weekly planner, I wish someone had told me earlier. Oh and remember to stick with it. And work hard, but play harder 🙂 This website might help too…http://www.testtakingtips.com/

Do you work after school?

Give yourself some time to pursue the fun as well as school related homework and studying.

There is something called time management which is designed to see that you use wisely use all of your time. I suggest that for a week you write down everything that you do and indicate the time. Then evaluate it and see if there are patterns where you did not use your time wisely.

First off, pay attention in class all the time. if the teacher’s talking, listen. secondly, do your homework first thing when you get home so none of it gets forgotten and so you don’t fall asleep in the middle of it. and study for tests at least two days in advance. if it gets really tough, look to your friends. probably one of them will have an idea of what to do.

your downfall is, and take this lightly, is that you are worried about your free time.

Since 9th grade, i wouldnt go out even during the weekneds ( I am in IB)

I would suggest, you realize soon that colledge is even worse, and buckeling down for at least senior year would do some good.
