How do we go about getting the glues white out sharpies out of schools and away fom the children?

as you see this is not brought up in the schools often enough and should be taken care of BEFORE another child loses their life over thse small hidden things schools do use.

Hi Lois.

You can’t protect kids from everything because of a few who may abuse it. Education really is the key.

It’s understandable to keep them away from these things until say the second or third grade. But at that age it’s not to get high but it smells or tastes good. Sometimes it’s done accidently. But if someone really wants to huff they can use any kind of spray product. A teen when I was a kid did it with right guard underarm spray he kept in his locker. Only a couple of us knew. Yet he never realized how serious it was. My friend who liked to huff gasoline back when it was leaded just loved the smell and thought she was dizzy from breathing in so deep. She was too young to even know what getting high was.

I don’t know why AZ schools (at least where you’re at) don’t have a comphrehensive drug education program. Ours in Ky. for the last 15 yrs. or more have had them from kindergarden to 8th grade. My kids knew more about the dangers of drugs (including inhaling, cigarettes, alcohol and homemade ones) than I ever did by the time they were in third grade. Most of our drug problems have to do with adults almost 30 and over.

This really is an issue that should be brought up at the PTA. Way too many think drug education will give the kid ideas. Trust me, they get them all by themselves or from peer pressure. With education they are better able to resist both.

Speak or write to the school officials.

Have other parents join you and then through the Parents Association attempt to sway the school board.

Good luck.
