How do I prove that I am Drum Major material?
I will be eligible to try out for drum major this year, but I’m afraid that my peers, the current drum major, and my band director won’t take me seriously. How do I prove that I want this and that I would be good for it?

As a High School Band Director, what I look for most in a Drum Major/Field Commander is passion, dedication, professionalism, organization, work ethic and leadership. Musical talent is always a great quality for a Drum Major, although it is the least of my concerns when making my selections.
Being afraid that no one will take you seriously is common. If you have shown the above qualities during your career as a band member then you should not have anything to worry about. Keep exhibiting those great qualities.
However, if you do not already have the above qualities and you have not proven to your band that you are an effective leader, changing your ways now probably won’t change their opinion of you.
