First — Look at the teacher.

if you are looking at neighbors or other places around the room you are not focusing on what your teacher has to say.

Second — Be ready to take notes on what the teacher says- even if it’s not required.

Listen for verbal cues and watch body language to know when important things are being said.

Third — Identify now what causes you to become distracted and make a plan to avoid it, them, whatever.

If your friends talk to you, move away from them. Sit as close to the teacher as you can. Don’t try to multitask. Focus on her or him only.

Fourth — as soon as you hear something you don’t understand, raise that hand and ask a question. If you didn’t understand it, neither did about 10 more people in the room.

Good luck.

first think that if you do not listen you do not get the material, therefore you will be behind, which in the end will make youget a bad grade which would make you seem dumb. also,as your teacher is speaking try to focus on the important things that she/he are saying and make them more sense like for example this is what we did in our history class in college-some class mates and myself-:we had to learn about St. Alban who was killed under Emperor Severus and thsi girl came up with how she should call Alban Albus as in from Harry Potter..So in the end 12 people in a study group learned that Albus was killed by Severus and we related it to Harry Potter and we are in college..think of is your teacher says something of how you can remember it or link events together..for example if you have the Treaty of Versailles after WWI the main ideas are: Britain,France,US to discuss damages, territory given back,French control over some things, paying for all damages. you should just pay attention to the main points and jot those down..read the material ahead and then you can fill in the blanks as your teacher is lecturing you guys..then you can go in la la land…

Take notes, draw diagrams of what’s going on, ask questions. The more involved you can become in the lesson and learning process the better you will remember it. Not only that, most teachers like to interact with their students. It is much more fun to have students ask questions than to have them sit there like rocks!
