well 2nd graders can read so they can help you distribute books,worksheets, copybooks….

collect homework and arrange them in the bookcase(each item in a pile)

erase the board(oh they just love it!!)

give out penciles, colors,papers, quizes… and collect them back and arrange them in boxes….

tidy up!!!!!!!! tuck in chairs…. take the trash bascket to the “nanny” to empty it….

carry stuff with you to the teachers room…five or six children at a time so that each one doesnt carry a lot(they love it too!)

all of the tasks are to be assigned through a task chart so that each child can take a turn.

well i cant remember more, and i guess you already knew all that… i promise i’ll edit if i think of something else.

oh by the way… please never put them in charge of anything concerning disciplining the class….BAD IDEA it makes the child in charge soooooooooo happy and the others ssssoooooo angry with him\her..

if you have to make your own picture, word cards,why not give it to them beforehand to color them for you?you can have them laminated and use them in your lessons… they will enjoy coloring them, they will be very excited the day you use what they’ve colored for explaning a new lesson and all of these cards can stay on the walls of the classroom afterwords , they will be delighted to see them everyday and they will be good reminders for them… you will save your effort, give them something fun to do, make them think about what might the next lesson be about….

also this can work for bigger posters you might want to hang on the wall.. only this time assign a group of children to color it together as a group work… they will be delighted to meet with each other maybe at the house of one of them to color and decorate it.. how does that sound?
