Do school systems know who they are going to hire before they even post the position?

I have an MBA, and have been told by my local school system that I interviewed excellently, they would love to have me in the school system, and I am in the top of the candidate pool if another position arises. If that’s the case, why didn’t I get the job offer?

I think it has more to do with who you know than whether you’re qualified. Maybe I’m just jaded like that, but that’s been what I’ve observed in my local school districts. My advice is to keep pestering people when you learn of new positions. Good luck!

There could be many reasons…

Teaching jobs can be very difficult to secure these days. For some reason there is a huge public misconception that teaching jobs are easy to come by…the fact is in certain areas of the country there could be as many 500-1000 applicants for one teaching job…

In order to get a teaching job these days you really need to do everything you can to separate yourself form the competition. I have written several articles on this topic and you can read through them here: http://www.TeacherInterviewTips.com/teacher_interview_articles.htm

With that said…to answer your original question…yes, it is possible that an administration may know who they are going to hire before they post the position and they still post the position because the must do so by law.

However, I have sat on countless teacher interview committees and I can also tell you that often times we thought we were going to hire someone, but then another candidate blew us away and we hired the better teacher.

Bottom line: the best schools will hire the best teachers they interview…the question is how do you stand out with so much competition?

Good luck!

Many do know exactly who they are going to hire. They have to advertise the position to satisfy government regulations. Your best bet is to apply at a brand new school or even a brand new community so that you will have more openings. Good Luck!
