Do I still have a chance of getting into Harvard?

Before junior year I slacked off and had a 3.54 GPA… but then I realized I needed to change and obtained all straight A’s throughout my junior year (with 5 ap classes). I was able to bring my GPA to a 3.71, but did my grades prior to junior year completely ruin my chances at an ivy league school? I recently got 2380 on the SAT and 800 on all my subject tests. I have over 300 community service hours from tutoring impoverished kids. I also won my state piano competition (though I admit it’s not that prestigious) and an art competition. However, my counselor said that grades are EXTREMELY important, and I’m afraid it won’t matter if I do anything else =(

Hey…I’m pretty much in the EXACT same situation as you. Like, before junior year, I had a 3.5 GPA, but after junior year, I got straight A’s with 5 AP classes, and my GPA became a 3.7 something. I’m trying to get into cornell, and my counselor said I have a pretty good chance. I don’t think your chances at Harvard, are big, but you may have a chance. Just do something unique. Organize a charity drive or something. That’s what I did.

If not harvard, you will definitely be able to get into another Ivy league school…maybe, cornell, columbia…somewhere along those lines. Just make sure to NAIL that essay, and emphasize your uniqueness. Don’t be afraid to brag on your application 🙂

And remember…luck always plays a role. Harvard is a reach for everyone.

it incredibly is all very astonishing whether it would no longer be adequate. i’m no longer attempting to place you down. All i’m saying is that I utilized to Harvard with a 4.3, a 2450 SAT a 34 ACT, and a sprint extra extracurricular activities than you have, and that i replaced into positioned on the waiting record. i did no longer get into the institute, yet I did get into Yale. you nonetheless have a number of time to advance although. practice to as many schools as attainable. in case you save up the stable artwork, you will truthfully get into an incredibly stable college. stable success, and that i’m hoping you get what you like!

Maybe not Harvard but you do have a good chance at other Ivy league schools. I am quite impressed at you SAT II scores and your SAT score is very good. Your community service is good and you did take 5 ap classes. Apply to Cornell or Combia or something.

Good luck.
