Do employers view GED graduates as still dropouts?

I dropped out out of high school, and now I am enrolled in a 5 week program that prepares me for the GED tests. I already passed my pre test and I am going to enroll in this 5 week course in September. By October I will have my GED. When I go to an employer with a GED, even though it is considered as good as a HS Diploma, will they be thinking in the back of their heads that I am still a “dropout”? If that makes any since.

dont listen to what anyone says. you’re not a quitter, and if YOU dont allow yourself to see yourself as that, then other people will not see you that way either. and if they do, you know what? who cares. let them think whatever they want. as far as employers, a high school diploma in this country is not seen as a big wow. it’s just something that most people have, and it doesnt show any real skill or impress an employer… a ged is also not impressive, of course, but in my opinion you are not seen as a dropout or quitter. you are seen as someone who decided to get their life back on track and better themselves. dropping out of high school isnt something to be ashamed of. yes, its taboo in this country, but honestly, sometimes life doesnt go as we planned. no one starts school wishing to drop out someday. but sometimes, it happens for various reasons. if you think of yourself as “the dropout” in the back of your head, then other people will get that vibe from you. but you know what? i bet you’re a bright person, just by the way you’ve written your question. Truly think of yourself as someone who faltered for a minute, but then jumped back on the wagon.. and there’s nothing wrong with that. Be confident in yourself and your abilities, and your future employers will see that. Forget about the whole high school, GED thing.. just put it out of your head. Get your GED, of course, but dont let it rule even 1% of who you see yourself as. Some of the brightest people out there, and a lot of famous people even (although they’re not necessarily the brightest, hehe) have their GEDs and have great careers. Good luck! :o)

Yes, yes yes

you are still a dropout.

You dropped out of high school didn’t you?

A high school diploma and a GED diploma are equivalent but not the same. There is no reason for anyone to look down on you because you got a GED diploma. Anyone who does is stupid.

Here is a website that might be able to help with any GED test, GED practice needs.

Personally I view it as simply this, you could not find a good enough job without a HS Diploma or GED so now you are getting it. In the hopes you can make more and actually have a life.

The longer you wait the worse it looks, if you waited years to get it then it is for sure going to look bad. If I was hiring I would worried that if the job got hard the person would just quit on me like they did on High School.

But that is just me and it all fairness it should be looked on as the same as a HS Diploma.

Well just a GED, or a High School Diploma in this day in age, is barely….mediocrity my friend. So I don’t think that they will put you up ahead of that many people. Everybody is getting a masters or a phd nowadays. So its gonna be tough to get a good well paying job with a GED, or a High School Diploma (doesn’t really matter which). Go to college, and get a degree to market yourself better.

You will always be seen as a high school dropout because you are a high school dropout. You will be seen as a quitter in many people’s eyes.

However, people drop out of high school for different reasons. It is important to demonstrate what you have been doing since dropping out that suggests that you have grown.

Even poor choices can turn out to be learning opportunities that are significant turning points in our lives and can enact change in other peoples lives. A teenager who drops out of high school because of drug abuse is not doomed forever…as long as he gets treatment and changes his ways.

Remember, high school dropouts can go to college or be employed and make an important contribution.
