Read regularly. Choose books that are of interest.

Be sure to continue developing reading comprehension skills (main idea, inferencing, context clues, etc.) In upper grades of elementary and beyond, her success will especially depend on her ability to read for meaning. This will also help her in the content areas of Social Studies and Science.

Continue to develop her writing skills. Keep a personal journal. Write everyday.

Be sure that she has mastered basic math facts with fluency. Get used to and comfortable with math word problems. Also, feel competent in the areas of fractions, percents, decimals, and basic algebra equations.

Resist negative peer pressure (It does start that young!)
