AP Classes Question?
Favorite Answer
You think they don’t know about Sparknotes, Cliff notes, classic comics, etc.? In most AP classes, plagiarism lifted from such sources is an automatic failure. Assignments and tests are designed to ensure only those who actually read the material can answer or do the work.
An AP student who doesn’t feel like doing the assigned reading is one who’ll do poorly on the AP exam which gives college credit, too.
It’s a great reference site, that helped me with a great deal of my assignments. I don’t see any harm in using sparknotes, as long as you’re able to analyze the shortened material. Because the main point of AP Lit is to teach you how to interpret what you have read and relate it to the “human condition”. So if you can do that, by all means take a short cut.
The AP test will have an open ended question though, that asks you to write about a specific book you read that has literary merit. So it is in your best interested to know at least one classic book by heart, and be able to discuss it thoroughly in essay form.
So my advice is to use sparknotes, but use it wisely. And if you see that you’re struggling in class by just reading the overview, then you should put the effort in to read the entire book.
Good luck!
